Long Run on December 16, 2012

Awake before the alarm clock to check the weather. Whoa! The stars are out! Let’s get going!

I filled up my CamelBak Ultra Vest with 2 liters of water and prepared a water bottle with half strength Gatorade. Put a few Gel’s and a Ziploc bag  with some jelly beans in the pocket. Turned on my iPod( with one earplug), turned on my headlight and headed down the road. I really didn’t have a planned destination. Should I go to Echo Beach and add a loop? Should I go all the way out to Tanah Lot? What about going out 5 miles in Canggu and then double back in a few spots? I decided after I reached 5 miles to double back and stay near to home.  No real reason, except I had not tried that before. All was quiet in Canggu on this morning. Very few people were out. Only the patrolling Security Guards and a large number of dogs. I didn’t have my Dog Dazer with on this run, but the dogs were only barking at me. With the rabies outbreak on Bali, I really should carry my Dog Dazer. It would be nice to have some Pepper spray too. I have never seen any for sale on Bali.

As the island woke up and sunrise neared, my legs decided to turn for home. All in all, I ended up with 17.5 miles. Good for today’s long run. Now I have to head off to work.

The Bali Marathon committee announced the date for the 2013 race. It will be June 16, 2013. See you there!

  1. Awesome job!! Sounds like a great run.

    • It was nice to be out running before sunrise. It is the rainy season here, so it was nice to not have to dodge raindrops too.
