Longest Bali Run. 28 miles

Long Run Fuel. Purple Sweet Potato

Long Run Fuel. Purple Sweet Potato

On Sunday morning I had time to get in a short 4 mile run before work. Just kind of a stretching out run, since my legs were still a bit sore from last week. It took 3.5 miles for the pain to ease up. I used this as a fasted state run and only brought along  some water. Finished up at sunrise when the traffic was just building.

Monday was a morning that I really felt like staying in bed. But that is not part of the plan right now. I compromised and ran a 5k near home. My heart rate stayed real low and it seemed like I didn’t put out any real effort. That should start me in the right direction for this weeks long run. I drank a little Hammer Heed that I had left over.

My long run was planned for Wednesday, but I couldn’t get to sleep Tuesday night, so decided to start out at 10pm. Does that make it a Tuesday run, or a Wednesday run?  No matter. It was definitely a run to forget. It was a struggle to complete 28.5 miles. I ate a bit of oatmeal and honey before starting out. It couldn’t have been nicer weather. Clear and calm. My nutrition plan was to have a GU every 4 miles and eat a Honey Stinger Waffle every hour. I had Hammer Heed to drink most of the way. Plain water the rest of the way. My CamelBak Ultra Vest weighed in at a whopping 10 pounds again. The whole run was painful and tiring, but it is the longest long run to date. Looking back, it was my 2nd Marathon distance in 5 days. That would be 1 reason for the poor performance.
