Start of June

June has started off on a low note. I have suffered from a cold and flu for a few days. I had to take a bunch of cold and flu medicine to get through my days at work. That has taken a toll on my body.
Running took a bit of a hit. I managed to get in 2 slow-paced runs. The first was a 13.1 mile, half marathon. This was run in the dark and I was entertained by a large, long-lasting lightning show out over the ocean. I actually started out twice, the first time I had to return home for a bathroom stop. Finished up before sunrise.
The next run was a shorter 8 mile race. Also in the dark. Didn’t feel so great on this run, but managed to finish and get home without too much walking.
Both runs were done wearing my CamelBak Ultra Vest, filled up for extra punishing weight. Both were  pretty much fasted-state runs, although I did drink a Hammer sports drink during the run.

I have the Bali Marathon scheduled in 12 days. Since my running has been so limited the last month, I guess my best option is to use the marathon as a training run and not plan much of a taper. My interest is to do better during the Voyageur race in 39 days. Time is running out, but life and family are important.
