Sunday night after work I visited the pain cave on my run. 7 miles up and down the Benete Hills.
I have yet to figure out the elevation gain on the steeper hills, but it seems to be about 800 feet in a half mile. It is pretty steep going up in a couple of spots and definitely there are a few spots that I could get out of control on the way back down. Nice workout in preparation for the Voyageur Trail race in 20 days.
On all my runs recently, I have been listening to podcasts instead of music. A few of my favorites this week are Talk Ultra with Ian Corless, the Rich Roll Podcast and Endurance Planet. All have great interviews and question/answer sessions that make the time fly by. The Talk Ultra podcasts are usually 3 and a half hours long, so they last for most of my runs. Check them out if you are interested in some good ultra running content.
Wednesday morning I started out at 2:30am under a full moon. This was a great run of 19 miles. I kept to a slow easy pace and felt good the whole way. Things were very quiet and peaceful until the last mile, when the traffic started up. I wore my weighted vest to keep myself from being too comfortable.
Now I have a few days of travel back to USA. Hopefully my reverse taper will work out and my nutrition will continue to improve. It will be nice to run some Minnesota trails and dirt roads.
Here are a few hazards to running in Bali this week.
