The Cloquet Sawdust 5k is an annual 5k on the 4th of July in Cloquet, MN. Several local sponsors help the Race Director, Jeff Leno put on a splendid race to raise money for the Cloquet 4th of July Celebration and the Cloquet High School Activities Program. The race is not a flat 5k. It has a couple of hills to raise your heart rate and test your legs, if you are not prepared.
Starting promptly at 8am under clear skies and cool temperatures, 400 or so runners and walkers passed over the timing mats for a fast paced run around West Cloquet.
A hill just after the start spreads things out, so there is plenty of room to run your own pace. Water is available 3 times, although not much is needed for a 5k race. The last 1/4 mile or so is downhill to the finish, so you can get a sprint going to impress the cheering crowds.
This years run saw a new course record. Not by me, but impressive to see the local talent coming out for the race.
Thanks to all the volunteers and of the course the race director and race committee. See you again next year.
